Loved the time we spent here! We decided to try St. Joseph plantation tour because of the affordable prices (check for Groupon discounts!) and great reviews. I am happy to say those reviews were all true-- we felt that St. Joseph offered an accurate perspective of what life was like on the plantations through the last few centuries. The home and grounds are well-maintained, and our tour guide Sylvia had a wealth of knowledge and personal stories to share. After our wonderful and personalized one-hour tour, we explored the grounds and gift shop. Sylvia also had tips on where to get good views of the Mississippi River past the levy. We also walked by neighboring Oak Alley Plantation, and could see that though beautiful, it was much more crowded and not as "real-life" as what we saw at St. Joseph. Would recommend this plantation to anyone!

A wonderful old plantation chock-full of history since its building and of the surrounding land. this particular plantation was used in the filming of the exceptional movie "12 years a Slave." Terrific photographic opportunities abound throughout this entire plantation. If visiting New Orleans, this is definitely a must visit. Highly recommend!
