Covering nearly 12 hectare (29 acres) on the shores of the Puget Sound, Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium houses more than 9,000 animals. Explore the park's wide variety of exhibits divided into themed areas, such as the Asian forest sanctuary, Arctic tundra, red wolf woods, and rocky shores. The 367 different species of zoo residents, many of which originate in the regions surrounding the Pacific Ocean, have lush living areas designed to replicate their natural habitats. Don't miss the multi-level aquarium exhibits, devoted to creatures of the North and South Pacific, including sharks, tropical fish, and a giant octopus. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium reviews
First visit since the zoo reopened. We are members & bought our timed tickets ahead of time like everyone needs 2 do. Different experience of course, not all exhibits are opened. Still a great day.... more »
The zoo itself was terrific - diverse animals, helpful in-zoo staff, excellent adaptation to needs for social distancing and sanitizing. BRAVO! However, the “customer service” young lady I spoke to.... more »
Just bought our annual membership. The new aquarium is awesome! They now have hammerhead sharks with huge stingrays! I love this zoo as it has breathtaking views of the Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier. The staff could've been a bit nicer to some of the volunteers as I overheard one of them getting on to someone about not having a belt or shirt tucked in. But overall I've only had positive experiences here! Highly recommended for a good time!
A lovely, educational zoo. Well laid out with beautiful grounds and welcoming staff. Educational talks throughout the day and lots of learning about conservation and sometimes rescue of animals. They have a really fun playground for children as well. Bring a picnic as there are many places to sit and enjoy the park. Outside food is allowed and water refill stations are plentiful. Parking is good and free. The property is a bit steep ( on an incline) yet people on scooters and wheelchairs are able to get around on the many ramps and a few elevators. We spent about 6 hrs there as we wanted to see everything.
