At Aquarium of the Bay, more than 20,000 animals are cared for, including approximately 50 sharks of different species. Aquatic animals from San Francisco Bay and its neighboring waters are kept in a range of different satellite tanks and one main tank that features 91 m (300 ft) of underwater tunnels. You'll have an opportunity to touch bat rays, skates, leopard sharks, sea stars, and sea cucumbers. The aquarium offers behind-the-scenes tours as well, where you'll witness how animals are cared for, or feed sharks and other fish. Don’t expect a huge aquarium from the beginning and you will enjoy the experience. It’s well done and the staff is very friendly, even the intoxicated person in the otter costume. Adds to the... more »
It was pretty good. Wasn't a fan of the long tubes, they made me really dizzy. However it was nice to see an assortment of local fish etc and to learn about the area. They had a lot of great exhibits and really the dizziness from the long water tubes is probably more personal. Overall it was a good experience if you like aquariums.
The aquarium was very nice and unique to the animals of the area. It had several animals I had never seen before and offered unique exhibits and interactive opportunities. I enjoyed the sea otters and Alcatraz sharks the most. It has a gift shop but no food area. However the aquarium is located in the heart of the pier with tons of stores and restaurants as well as additional activities to participate in.
