USS Midway Museum Reviews
We had taken the driving tour of San Diego in the morning and walked from the Santa Fe Station to the pier for the USS Midway. Part of your admission ticket included a recorded self-tour of the ship a... more »
Really enjoyed the opportunity to board this mighty aircraft carrier. Great tour guide and much to take in. Highly recommend it. more »
You just got to love the Midway! This is the most brilliant museum that I have ever been to, it's the historic USS Midway, as maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers, historians, and veterans, plus, even a few ghosts, if you're clever enough to catch them on tour. You can't see the whole ship in one day, so plan return visits. Make sure to have good shoes and sensible clothing on, as this is a true naval vessel, and you will be doing some hatched doors and narrow stairs. Bring the kids, especially your active children. Lots for them to explore here. The crew are currently making renovations to the hangar deck, so the fabulous Fan Tail Cafe is not there anymore, but signs posted nearby promised a new cafe. All the volunteers are friendly and eager to answer questions. They have recorded docent tour devices available. The panorama from the flight deck is breath-taking, of both downtown, and the bay. It's worth the price of admission for that alone. Plan to spend your whole day there if you go. It's 3-4 hours walking.
We once saw an NCAA basketball game on the deck of this ship. Every seat was basically court-side in distance. I still don't know how we managed to get those tickets. So fun! I have also been through the ship on tours a few times and really enjoyed it. It gives a great perspective on what life is like aboard a ship like this. Highly recommended!
