  • This is such a neat place to visit. There are so many historical elements here. The building, the history and stories of the people who both worked and were incarcerated here, the cemetery, and much.....  more »
  • Didn’t have time to do the tour but wish we could have! Great little free museum inside and lots of interesting stuff. Still can’t believe this place was open until 1981! Some of the exhibits were...  more »
  • Absolutely must stop! The kids loved it. Might have been a little much to learn how the Julien Gallows work, but still educational. The Romanesque Architecture is beautiful. Our tour guide was excellent. She was very animated in her tone and kept everyone engaged. We had a small tour group, so we were fortunate to be able to ask many questions; even some gruesome ones. Don't come in just thinking it is going to be a bunch of cell blocks. There were many interesting people that came through and some repeat customers too. If you look carefully while you're there too, you'll see a lot of the places that the guards stood behind fences on all four levels with access for their Tommy guns to fit in case of use. Such a unique stop. So happy we did. Kids still are talking about it.
  • If you love prison history, this is a great location to visit. The guides are very knowledgeable and engaging. Galen was a great guide. We were able to see many different parts of the prison including death row and the gas chamber, various cell blocks beautiful art made by an inmate, and hear so many stories about the prison and everyone who passed through there. This prison is also the site where a movie was filmed and paranormal investigators, from Ghost Adventures, have visited. There are even deer roaming the property.
