Part of the Philadelphia Convention Center, Reading Terminal Market features more than 100 lively merchants selling fresh food, baked goods, flowers, and crafts in an antique setting reminiscent of early 19th-century Philadelphia markets. In 1859, popular outdoor markets in Philadelphia were dismantled because they were considered unhygienic. This prompted the opening of two indoor markets--the beginnings of the large market that exists today. At this center, where scenes from "Trading Places" and "National Treasure" were filmed, you can spend the day shopping for authentic goods, eating delicious ethnic food, or trying Bassett's Ice Cream, a favorite of Philadelphia locals. Though most merchants work at the market every day of the week, keep in mind that Amish or Mennonite vendors do not open shop on Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays. This market is indeed one of a kind I’m a tourist that was visiting form the other side of the coast so I was anticipating trying some east coast grown food and the options to choose from was amazing the people there were phenomenal and I can honestly say this was one of my memorable moments of my trip I totally recommend anyone to check this place out if you are planing to see a market on your next vacation! Thank you so much for still having markets around back home it seems to be to hot and or super difficult to grow anything in a desert.

Great options for food. Just walk around and find something for your taste. Full of history also, because this place used to be a rail shed for a railroad company before it was turned into market place in 1893. Still one of the oldest public markets in US. ℹ️ Fun fact: two of the vendors are descendants of merchants from the initial opening.
