Mathematics illuminates the patterns that abound in our world. The museum’s activities will lead a broad and diverse audience to understand the evolving, creative, human, and aesthetic nature of mathematics.
Accomplishments to date include opening North America's only museum devoted to math and its many connections with nature, art, science, business, music, and everyday life; creating the popular Math Midway exhibition (mathmidway.org), which is currently touring museums throughout the United States; leading math tours in various U.S. cities; the Math Encounters (mathencounters.org) presentation series; delivering programs for students, teachers, and the public to increase appreciation of mathematics; and hosting over 125,000 visitors to date.
Like most museums, MoMath cannot survive on admission revenue alone. If you believe in the mission of the National Museum of Mathematics, please support the institution by becoming a member (momath.org/join) or donor (momath.org/contribute). Thanks!
National Museum of Mathematics Reviews
Many of are kids and grandkids are math lovers. We let the wizards go to various rooms at their own speed while I played building things. Our teen aged granddaughter was thoroughly engaged and relucta... more »
We visited as a couple expecting a museum but didn’t really experience that at all. Some of the interactive activities were fun but many others were let down by poor instructions, broken pieces and a ... more »
I took my sisters who were visiting from FL here. At first glance, it really doesn't seem like much. There's a lot of mathematics-driven activities that are pretty cool. I enjoyed seeing my sisters give the square-wheeled tricycles a whirl. The hands-on digital mural painting was a lot of fun as well. The greatest surprise is that there is the BASEMENT level that hides the really good stuff. There's a motion-sensor maze on the floor that you try to get blocks to their designated color slots. There's a ton of mind teaser puzzles to really give your noggin a work out. The wall of magnets is really fun too! It has magnet pieces that fit together regardless of the color. It's just a really cool place. I'm not a big math person and while I didn't take in all the mathematics behind the fun. I can definitely appreciate it.
The museum is pretty fun with interactive exhibits, some of which require critical thinking which is nice. You definitely won't see some of this stuff anywhere else. It's a great place to go have some fun and get out of the heat (or cold). Recommend coming here if you live nearby! If you're a tourist, it'll still be a good experience to come if time allows.
