Irving Plaza originally opened as Irving Hall in 1860 as a home for balls, lectures, and concerts. The present, rebuilt structure opened in 1888 and spent the next 90 years finding its identity, transitioning from a German Theatre to a burlesque house, Yiddish theatre, French and Soviet film house, and Polish Army Vet community center.

In 1978, Irving Plaza was converted into a rock music venue and has since hosted acts such as Talking Heads, the Ramones, U2, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, establishing it's history as New York City’s premier music venue. Today, Irving Plaza continues to be a major stepping stone on the career path of hundreds of artists every year.

  • Great venue! A little small, but it never felt suffocating, only 'cozy' despite it being a sold-out show. I got to see Jacob Collier here on March 3 and it was easily the best concert I've ever been to.
  • Fun venue, but the wand plus pat-down for everyone at the street is a turn-off for sure. Be prepared to entirely empty all your pockets...well unless you're a woman. Then they glance in your purse and in you go. The upper level (generally VIP) has nice views, but GA tickets for the floor aren't as great if you're not up front. Good sound, typical pricey drinks, mediocre snacks. Just what you'd expect from a music venue :) If you found this review helpful, please thumbs-up :)
