Greenwich Village, New York City
Regarded as a haven for creative types from the late 19th century till the late 20th century, Greenwich Village served as the birthplace for the Beat generation and 1960s counterculture in the East Coast. Though a victim of gentrification, the Village--as it's known by locals--still possesses a strong community identity. The best way to get a feel for this is to stroll through the area. Make sure to stop by the historic Washington Square Park and the nearby Grey Art Gallery, which houses New York University's art collection. The neighborhood also boasts a strong performing arts scene with many theaters. To learn more about the area's important history and architecture, take a guided tour. Washington teams remains the heart of the village. Always busy and full of street performers. The statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi makes a beautiful exhibition of itself inside the garden. From the square you depart the streets full of shops and especially full of small restaurants. A world of varied food collected in a limited space. I guess we don't miss any kind of cooking

This area is human-sized, no buildings, old NY, shops of all kinds; handy when you go home in the evening and we just want to do some errands...
