Experience the bustling feel of the city at its transportation center, Grand Central Terminal. With old-world charm and impressive turn-of-the-century architecture, the two-story station covers an area of 19 hectares (48 acres), making it one of the largest terminals in the world. Wander the buzzing main concourse to admire the high-vaulted ceilings adorned with constellations, or the four-face clock that serves as the station’s icon. Head into the station's concourses for a wide array of restaurants and shops, including a market where you can pick up local produce and meat. This is a train station, an art gallery, shopping & dining complex, events venue, tourist attraction and has a fixed historic landmark status. This beloved Grand Station of NYC was taken for granted back in the day and was very close to being torn down just like Penn Station until Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis stepped in and saved it. Otherwise all New Yorkers would be travelling underground like other rats in the city. Also what you see today with your open mouths is a glittering, shining marble building but it took 12 years of restoration to remove decades of pollution, grime and gunk that covered its beautiful ceiling. After all it is in New York.
