Flatiron Building, New York City

4.5
Erected in 1902, Flatiron Building takes its name from its resemblance to a cast-iron clothing iron and was built to fill a small wedge-shaped piece of land. Designed by Daniel Burnham, the building epitomizes the Chicago School design, which makes it distinct from the other skyscrapers in the area. Upon completion, the building was one of the tallest in the city, measuring 87 m (285 ft) in height. The building no longer carries that designation, however, it remains one of the city's iconic examples of architecture. • An iconic New York building located in a commercial district with a large plaza. The Flatiron building is generally less busy than other NYC landmarks, although the crowds are still bustling on the weekends. There isn't a whole lot to do at the building itself, but it you can get some nice photos and enjoy the surrounding shops or plaza. The cool part about the Flatiron building is you can see the whole structure (unlike say with the Empire State Building) and it's probably worth the trip for tourists.
  • This area has the best restaurants and excellent shopping locations to visit. Also, you can sit on a bench, relax and enjoy a glass of wine or a soda. Perfect to visit on weekends an take the best pictures.
