The huge Episcopal cathedral, Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine is still unfinished. The cathedral, begun in 1892 and first fully opened in 1941, provides guided and self-guided tours with opportunities to learn about its history, architecture, and spiritual offerings. Enter the cathedral through the great bronze doors, which were cast by Barbedienne (who also cast the Statue of Liberty). The doors, each 5.5 m (18 ft) high, are covered in 60 bas-relief scenes from the Bible. View the west facade's great rose window, which spans a diameter of 12.2 m (40 ft) and holds more than 10,000 glass pieces. The cathedral does not have a cloakroom, so you must wear or carry anything you bring with you. Check online for a worship service schedule. Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine reviews

Just to get the facts right, no it's not "the largest" but one of the largest churches in the world. And yes if they ever managed to finish it as planned, it might hold that title. Its not that old..... more »
I used to love coming here. I felt such calm and peace to sit and feel calm only to find now that you cannot even enter without paying a $10 fee. I CAN get in without paying the fee because I am “local” but having to defend and argue that fact kills any peace I used to feel by coming here. It was one of my favorite places to go in the city and this makes me very sad
Overall very beautiful and a wonderful experience. I would ask them to please, please, please make the sign for accessible entrances more visible. I visit once in awhile and when the event changed buildings I went through the whole “go around half the grounds” again this December, which in a wheelchair and the slight hill isn’t always the funnest, I was a little frustrated. However, overall a lovely place, though and I do appreciate the beauty of it so a few more signs would really help a girl, or guy, out.
