Cheesequake State Park is a 1,610-acre (6.5 km2) state park located in Old Bridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey in the United States.

The New Jersey Legislature allocated $100,000 in 1937 to purchase property for this state park. The state first acquired a 250-acre tract of farmland and a Civil War-era mansion from the Favier brothers in January 1938. Additional lands were acquired over the next two years, and the Civil Conservation Corps, part of the Works Progress Administration, helped develop the property. The park was opened in June 1940. It is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry and is part of the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail Route.

The name Cheesequake has been variously described as deriving from the Lenape words Cheseh-oh-ke ("upland"), Chichequaas ("upland village"), or Chiskhakink ("at the land that has been cleared").

  • One of the most horrible experiences of my life. I want to warn people DO NOT GO THERE! I was looking for a place to bring my sons for a hike and some swimming. We were eaten alive by mosquitoes...  more »
  • Great trails but the main parking lot for the trail head is very small. People are usually waiting in a line for people to pull out so they can get a spot. Also what's the deal with Perrine Pond...  more »
  • Amazing Park! Easy To Navigate Around. Lake Is Beautiful. Only Pro Is You Must Bring Your Own Garbage Bags Or They Will Provide You With One Which Is No Problem. But There Are No Garbage Cans
  • Smaller State Park with a swimming lake, nice Nature Center (great for kids with terrariums etc). Great and moderately difficult hiking trails through the NJ Coastal marshlands and Pine Barrens - beautiful landscapes with lots of wildlife to see. The soil is mostly sandy, but firm, and some areas are hilly. Difficult areas are usually supported with stairs or steps, and there are lots of wooden walkways through gorgeous marshy areas. The trails are very well maintained. There is even a 'crabbing bridge', which is usually frequented by 'crabbers'. One can see a lot of blue crags zipping by with the tides.
