The 8 km (5 mi) long beach at Little Talbot Island State Park offers opportunities for swimming, surfing, shelling, kayaking, and fishing. Located on a Florida barrier island, the park supports a variety of natural habitats, from sandy dunes to forests and marshes. While hiking or biking on the trails, you can stop by a picnic pavilion to have a snack. Camping is available, and you can reserve a spot up to 11 months in advance. The park has a limited number of canoes, kayaks, and bicycles for rent. Be cautious in the water, because the beach has no lifeguards and the currents can be strong. A group of 4 of us (all women) stopped here on our way to Amelia Beach from St. Augustine and it was so beautiful. There's a long boardwalk that takes you out to the beach. We walked the beach looking for shark teeth and we ended up seeing a couple of dolphins swimming and jumping out in the ocean. It was just a really nice area with decent bathroom/changing facilities as well. It does cost $5 to get into the park, but it was worth it. And we only stayed for about an hour.
A really wonderful beach. We saw a turtle munching on grass, birds skimming the water with their beaks open to eat bugs, and lots of shells. The dunes are very pretty and the beach is really long so perfect for long walks and having a private area to relax. When the tide is part way up, a shallow area of warm water is created that is very fun to walk or splash about in.
