Admire an extensive series of cascades at Buttermilk Falls State Park, where you have a range of opportunities for hiking and enjoying the area's lush nature. Though named for the largest of its waterfalls, the park features nine others of varying size and length. Visit the park and hit the trail to view these falls, accessible via a network of hiking paths that give you clear views of the waterways. Follow these trails, which range from 1.2 km (0.75 mi) to 2.4 km (1.5 mi), down through the valley and alongside the falls themselves. Keep in mind that while the trails are relatively short, they vary in difficulty and can be quite intense, so be sure to outfit yourself with some comfortable hiking shoes. Buttermilk Falls State Park Reviews
Most of the Park is closed from Nov. to spring. But the falls are easily viewed from a short walk from the parking lot. The lower falls just give a sense of what is above. Wait until spring! more »
The falls and foliage autumn here is beautiful. You can swim here in summer. Camping is a good idea during summer. A must go place. more »
I really loved this park. I camped here for six nights and totally enjoyed myself. It’s a small campground almost equally divided between tent and cabin sites. The cabins are new and have 3 bunks and a queen. No running water or bathrooms. The showers, restrooms and dishwashing areas were always well stocked and clean. All the campers were polite and friendly. Some were musicians which added to the ambiance. It’s convenient to Auburn, Seneca Falls and Watkins Glen. It’s JUST outside of Ithaca so you’re golden if you need anything. The Falls were only a trickle until after a night of T Storms then became a forceful cascading wonder. Can you hear Rt 13? You can at times but by 10pm it’s very quiet. Watkins Glen is huge in comparison but I really liked it here.
Amazing state Park. We weren't aware we would have to pay to park based on information my friend got off line but we were able to use the pass at a second park. The Falls were absolutely gorgeous. Gorgeous from the bottom up where the swimming area is. Gorgeous from the top down. This is not some place I would want to hike if there were a lot of rain for the steps (from the top down) could become slippery.
