Celebrate the famed Hitachi tree and view lesser-known plants when you visit Moanalua Gardens Park. The 9 hectare (24 acre) park is known as the home of the massive umbrella-shaped monkeypod tree, famous in Japan as the Hitachi tree. Have a picnic in the shade, and if you time your visit right, watch some hula dancing in the park. Stop by the Kamehameha V Cottage while you are there, once the home of Prince Lot Kapuāiwa, who became King Kamehameha V. Head to the gift shop before you leave if you want to purchase items with the Hitachi tree logo on it. This is my favorite place to go when I want peace and quiet..sometimes I cross the bridge and walk the trail and sing as loud as I can. It's just that peaceful, spacious and inviting. Also, if you're military you only pay $1. Go there if you want to have a picnic, meditate or wedding plus there is genuine history on the land-- there's an old temple! How cool is that!
30Aug19. This garden has beautiful places for taking pictures. There is an open field right in the middle of the garden that is quite large for running and enjoying nature. There are arrangements for sitting for that one perfect picture. There is a nominal fee to enter the garden. Great place to have a wedding..
