  • My sister and brother-in-law live nearby and they've been coming here for corn-picking for the last 7 years or so. This year, my visit finally aligned with corn-picking season, so we decided to go on the second Sunday (I believe it's only available for the last three weekends of October). Apparently, there used to be no limit as to how many ears of corn you could pick. As long as you could fit it in your bucket, unshucked, then it was yours. This year, they capped it at 40. On top of that, the corns were very skinny this year (according to the sis). She said they're normally double the size and it seemed like the corn this year weren't quite ready for picking yet. Admission is $3 per person, and I believe the bucket is $18, so the corn won't be as cheap as it is at a supermarket (especially not with the cap). But, it's a fun and unique experience. I've never been corn-picking before, only apple-picking. It gets really hot out in the field though, and you should definitely expect to get dirty. There's a pumpkin patch that you can take photos with, but you can't pick the pumpkins from it. Instead, the pumpkins you can purchase are all in a cardboard bin. Also for purchase are some other fruits and veggies at this little farmer's market they have by the entrance. I think this was more of a one-time experience for me, but I would recommend it to anyone who has never been.
  • It was soooo hot and there is minimal relief from it which can make for some pretty miserable toddlers. The sunflower fields were gorgeous! We had a great day though. Bring a wagon and sunscreen and water!
