  Easy trail with minimal elevation gain through a cool tropical forest. Opportunities to see many birds, including honeycreepers, but go early or late as they are not very active mid-day. Trail has.....  more »

  Spent time there walking the trail. Saw a few pheasants and three song birds. Very disappointing and would not recommend visiting  more »

  Nice quiet spot to walk, and mostly under the shade of large, old trees!! Nice and cool after spending hot day in sun at volcano.

  Not spectacular, but a nice place to go to enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature. It is a big loop walk with many birds chirping and singing. If you want to enjoy a more peaceful and tranquil experience (with fewer noisy people) go on a weekday since more people tend to show up on the weekends. The road to Mauna Loa lookout starts here, but the gate was closed when we visited in January 2019.
