Ocean is a wonderful human. She is passionate about shark conservation and teaching others. Wild to get in the water with these apex predators of the sea. Absolutely worth the visit. more »
First, you should be scared at the idea of swimming with sharks with no cage, but don’t let that illogical fear get in the way of one of the best experiences on Oahu. One Ocean Diving also does multiple dives everyday and has not had a shark attack. Read their website to learn more but if you are still not convinced, just take a friend that is juicier than you. My experience: The guides were friendly and gave us all the rules on the way out. We saw a bunch of tuna and around ~20 Galapagos sharks - some came within a few feet of us. Thankfully, the weather was nice and we had around 100ft. of visibility. Recommendations: (1) They have gear which is included in your package but bring your own for a better and more enjoyable fit. (2) I bought the video package because I was not sure if it would be hard to film and also enjoy the experience. The footage was fine but nothing fancy. Bring your own camera - there is plenty of time to film and put the camera down to enjoy. (3) Don’t eat questionable eggs before going. You will regret it.
Very well organized and I greatly appreciate the approach taken to the dive (educational). Our booking had to be moved due to weather (we weren’t surprised from watching the wind forecast), so our new time slot was late in the day, and it was unfortunately quite choppy (totally out of their control obviously). As with any boat outing, book earlier for the best experience! But the girls found the sharks and made us feel very safe the whole time. They were vigilant to ensure everyone’s safety. I was a bit disappointed the sharks weren’t closer (I’m probably alone with this!), and that we had to stay so close to the boat (but again, I understand the safety reasons). It just made it tricky to avoid bumping into people with so many folks in a small area to swim (and rough water). But still an excellent experience. FYI- if you are using an underwater camera- I would recommend a red filter. The girls said they don’t use one, but because the sharks were quite deep our videos were washed out without the red filter. Keep up the great work ladies!
