Shriver House Museum, Gettysburg

4.8
Visit Shriver House Museum to learn the story of the Civil War's Battle of Gettysburg through the lives of the Shriver family. The home has been restored to its 1860's appearance. You'll get an authentic look at how the battle affected the lives of the civilians of Gettysburg. Hettie Shriver, fearing for the safety of her young daughters, went to stay at the family's farm out of town, where some of the worst fighting took place. Guides in period clothing recount how Confederate soldiers quickly seized the empty house to set up a sharpshooter's nest. Notice the civil war bullets, some of which were still live when found in the attic in 1996. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Gettysburg trip simple and quick.

  • This was one of my favorite museums. Guides in period dress take you through 3 levels of the home and give your information about the period, family history and battle from the civilian 's perspective...  more »

  • To all Gettysburg visitors....do yourself a favor after your battlefield tours .... go to the Shriver House for a fantastic & authentic presentation of Gettysburg battle horror through the eyes of civilians. It gives a whole new perspective to Gettysburg. The visual house presentation & oration of events that happened during those frightful days is extremely real and well worth your time. The docents are extremely well versed with facts and answers to any and all questions you may have. Abby, our guide, was tremendous.
