Fort Fetterman, located approximately seven miles northwest of Douglas, is situated on a plateau above the valleys of LaPrele Creek and the North Platte River. Fort Fetterman is open to the public from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. A restored officers' quarters and an ordnance warehouse have interpretive exhibits and artifacts of the fort's history, Fetterman City and its Indian predecessors. You are encouraged to walk the grounds where interpretive signs describe the fort's buildings and activities.

  • One of many historic sites in Wyoming. We visited while camping in the Douglas area. The fort's exhibits and preserved artifacts are amazing. Ian, the fort's on-site host, was friendly and knowledgeable, providing information and cold water to slake our thirst on a hot, sunny day. Make sure to take the self-guided walking tour of the grounds, and enjoy the view from a gazebo above the North Platte river. Keep your eyes on the ground occasionally, because we saw a small horned toads, and found a few old style nails with square heads on one of the pathways. Remember, take only pictures, not exposed artifacts...
  • Very nice surprise. Very knowledgeable host. Great photos and old diagrams.interesting History of the area. First time visit after 42 years in Wyoming . Well worth the time to visit.
