  I made a day trip from PA to Cumberland and this was such a pleasant little area. I took my kids and we went inside the visitors center where they did the pressed penny machine. Then they played on the playground (which is set up like a train), we walked down the little bridge and by the canal, then had a picnic! After that we walked down the pedestrian mall. It was a really nice experience and worth the drive to just spend the day relaxing there.

  Great visitors center with friendly and helpful staff. Extensive exhibits on the history of the C&O Canal. Lots of hands-on stuff for kids of all ages. Definitely worth a visit.
