Known for its deep blue color and clear waters, Crater Lake National Park formed in a collapsed volcano. The lake is more than a protected ecosystem, it is also a sacred place to the Klamath tribe, who researchers think may have witnessed the collapse of the volcano. You'll be able to see another legendary aspect of the lake as well. "Old Man of the Lake," once a tree, now a stump, has bobbed in the lake for centuries. Crater Lake National Park boasts hiking trails and lookout points all around its rim. Crater Lake is an amazing park. We didn't explore a lot of the park. We centered our visit around the lake. The caldera is so dramatic. The lake is incredibly blue. You can't experience the... more »

Unbelievable place! Everybody has the same jaw dropping expression when they see this! If it's still bit snowy, the north rim road will be closed. That's what happened to us. We had to drive for extra 50 minutes to the South entrance. Check the conditions on the website to get information about road closures. You'd want to visit here on a day with clear skies ideally, if you want to see the deep blue lake. The water is exactly the reflection of the sky, so that means if you come here for sunrise/sunset, that would be great as well. This is in the middle of a first, completely away from civilization. The air is crisp and fresh.. I'm definitely going back here for multiple visits.

Absolutely gorgeous. Facilities were clean and able to handle the large amounts of people. The only complaint I had was the lack of any attempt to guide traffic in some of the busier places along the rim.
