The West Point Foundry was an early ironworks in Cold Spring, New York that operated from 1817 to 1911. Set up to remedy deficiencies in national armaments production after the War of 1812, it became most famous for its production of Parrott rifle artillery and other munitions during the Civil War, although it also manufactured a variety of iron products for civilian use. The rise of steel making and declining demand for cast iron after the Civil War caused it to gradually sink into bankruptcy and cease operations in the early 20th Century.Find out how to plan Cold Spring trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

If you are a history buff this should be on your list to see if in the area. I would not make a long trip just for here. Just ruins but the many 1800's contributions made from here are amazing. Dont believe? Read up on the place. I read on one of the displays, the USS Monitor's cannons were made here as well as the Merrimack's engines Did not know. Nice trails to various areas. Great job with the displays at each stop. Only problem was with my cellular carrier I could not get a signal to listen to the audio presentations at each stop. Spent about an hour and got a good feel for the place.
This park has the perfect mix of hiking & history. The grounds are beautiful and the soothing sound of rushing water fills the air. You can get a great view of the marsh as well as the beautiful waterfall flowing from under the bridge. You can capture awesome pics while taking in all the beauty the area has to offer. The walk is quite leisurely and relaxing. It is a short trip from the center of town and has plenty of parking so don't miss it!
