Navy Pier, Chicago

3.8
A cool place to spend a hot day on Lake Michigan, Navy Pier extends for over 1,000 m (3,300 ft) along the lakefront. Designed by city planner Daniel Burnham and built in 1916, the pier first served as a cargo facility for lake freighters, with a network of warehouses stretching along the shoreline. In the pre-air conditioning years, the pier also served Chicagoans as one of the coolest places in the city, quickly becoming a popular venue for public gatherings and entertainment. Now the city's top tourist attraction, the pier features a children's museum, fountains, fast-food eateries, souvenir vendors, and a Ferris wheel. The older crowd can enjoy lakefront views, boat cruises, and a range of live shows. Planning Chicago trip won't be overwheling when you use's Insprock itinerary maker.

  • Always relying on chicago's great public transport, we went to Navy Pier on two occasions at our stay in the city. With a wide range of restaurants, bars and shops, it also has a small amusement park and a beautiful view of the city. A pity was the fact that we went in the fall, as certainly the experience should be much better in the summer due to temperature.

  • Spectacular views. Went on a weekday so it was less crowded. Walked and hiked around the trail. Very peaceful pace. Must go place if visiting Chicago and interested in doing all the touristy stuff.
  • Though I visited this place early in the morning, I still got to appreciate it. Very quiet and good for strolling as well. This is one of the nice place Chicago once again can offer. You may rent a bike to roam around and enjoy the pier. Giant ferris wheel is awesome to have in this place. This is best for children and all folks at all ages.
