  • Fast food from 1776. By which I mean the food is colonial style (and delicious) and also insanely quickly attained. Two kids eating within 5 minutes is a beautiful thing. Two kids who also ate everything we gave them is so wonderful that it makes me believe in the dream of America again. Thank you Thomas Jefferson.
  • This place bills itself as a historic tavern. Everything about it for better or worse is touristy. The tavern sits up on a steep hill and is not very stroller or handicapped friendly. We took our 9 month old there and had to take a winding ramp around to an old fire exit. We then had to wait for someone inside to come around and unlock the door. The buffet was small but most of the items were good. The fried chicken was crisp, the biscuits were delicious, and the stewed tomatoes were excellent. The green beans were canned and flavorless and the pork was pretty mushy. I doubt any locals come here but if you are in town and just toured monticello it may be worth it. Skip it if you have small kids or wheelchairs in your party.
