Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Chantilly

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is home to thousands of aircraft and space artifacts. You can explore on your own or take a guided tour for more information about the impressive collection. Witness significant pieces of aviation history, such as the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a Concorde, and several World War II planes, before heading up the center’s observation tower to watch planes in action at the nearby airport. Don’t miss the opportunity to have your photo taken in front of a real-life space shuttle. There is an on-site IMAX theater, but tickets for its showings do sell out, so buy online in advance. Bring a jacket with you, as the large hangars can get cold. Make Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center a part of your Chantilly vacation plans using our Chantilly journey planning tool.

  • One of the best collections of aerospace history, a must see for anyone interested in aviation or space. I would plan a minimum of 4 hours. The docents are extremely knowledgeable (some even former aviators or engineers). Every time I take the free highlights tour, there's additional nuance provided by each docent. The restoration area in the back is very cool with numerous aircraft in progress.
  • This museum has a very interesting mix of planes and other flying machines, including a lot of German WWII craft. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are free tours and hands on exhibits including the ability to sit in a Cessna 205. We had a great time during our visit. We didn't get to see much from the "control tower", but is a great view.
