In 1971, our family started keeping bees in Hawaii. While maintaining our artisanal standards, the apiaries have grown from just a few hives in the early ‘70s, to 3,800 hives and 190,000,000 bees today. Our mission is simple: Provide the finest single-floral, artisanal honey anywhere!A visit to Big Island Bees represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Captain Cook online trip maker to plot your vacation.
Join our beekeeper for a fun and educational exploration about bees, beekeeping, and honey, where from behind a safe, screened viewing area, you can view an open beehive demonstration with our bees. Farm tours are available at 10am, 12pm and 2pm Monday to Friday and 10am and 12pm on Saturday. Reservations are strongly recommended for the beekeeping tours. Sign up at bigislandbees.com!
Don't forget to visit the museum! From 10am-4pm, and Saturday from 10am-2pm, you can sample our honeys and learn about bees, beekeeping and honey from our displays and photos. Museum admission is free. No reservations required for the museum.

Learned a lot about bees and how honey bought from smaller operations differs from what’s found in most grocery stores. Interesting tour and cost was reasonable. more »
I stopped in on a whim and I was not dissapointed. I just did a honey tasting, but the lady who hosted it was very attentive and detailed in the honeys I sampled. There are some really cool sculptures in there as well, and the prices were fair. Highly recommended.
Very interesting and informative "tour". Ten minute video explaining big picture of bee and then an hour demonstration pulling out trays from bee hives and pointing out and discussing life cycle of bees and honey making progress. Tasting of six honey varieties followed.
