Old Faithful Geyser of California, Calistoga

2.0
#1 of 7 in Parks in Calistoga
A smaller version of the famous geyser of the same name, Old Faithful Geyser of California shoots water into the air every 30 minutes. Purchase a ticket to view the geyser at the visitor center, and wait for the next eruption. While you wait, relax in the log cabin ambiance or visit the animals outside. You can see Tennessee "fainting" goats, llamas, and Jacob's Four-Horn Sheep. • This was like a ghost town. We were the only people there. It even took us a minute to find someone working the front desk. When we paid and entered, you walk straight ahead to the geyser. There are c...  more »

  • It’s a nice place for a family picnic especially if you have young children. You should go in the morning, bring some food, snacks and drinks so that you don’t need to worry about lunches and just enjoy your time there. It’s rather inconvenient if you need to find food since you have to drive some distance to the nearest town. The park is kind of small; I would divide it into four areas: geyser watching, children playground, animal ranch and a small garden. There is ample of seating to watch the geyser show. I went there during summer time and it was hot, but quiet. I think if the weather is cooler it would be more enjoyable. They provide plenty of free parking, a small kitchenette near the admission counter and free utensils (plates, forks, knives, etc.) and ice cubes. I would give it a 4-star rating. • I arrived here excited to see my first geyser and also thought it would be fun to play with the fainting goats as well. The staff was helpful and got us our tickets and on our way quickly. When we got to the back area they geyser was already going off and it was cool to see. Nothing spectacular because the spray wasn't very big or very high but cool nonetheless. In between the geyser going off which was about every 5-10 minutes, we thought it would be cool to check out the goats. Not sure if we couldn't go in the goat pen because it was so hot or that was just business as usual, but we couldn't really see or get close to the goats because they were hiding in the shade. So we didn't get to see any goats fainting. It was nice they had boards up with facts about the animals and the geyser and how it works and etc though.
