Pentagon Memorial, Arlington

4.6
Pentagon Memorial honors the 184 people who died in the attack on the Pentagon building on September 11, 2001. Each person is honored by an illuminated bench with his or her name set in shallow pools of water. When you read the names of those who perished inside the building, you'll face the spot where the plane hit the Pentagon. Turn toward the sky to read the names of those who were on board. At the memorial, you can dial a number to listen to an audio tour on your phone. The tour is also available online for listening and download. The memorial is the only part of the Pentagon complex where taking photos is allowed. Before you visit Arlington, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.

  • Closing it down on 9/15/19 for renovations??? Let people come and pay their respects and work around them. There is no visitors center (The other two memorials visitor centers are extremely informative and emotionally draining) I am thankful that a volunteer happened to be giving a tour, as there is no explanation of the significance of the benches, year lines, etc. After visiting the Flight 93 memorial (Amazing) and the World Trade Center Memorial (Very Emotional), this Memorial was somewhat of a let-down. I am very thankful to the gentleman who was volunteering, as he was extremely knowledgeable about the monument and the events of the day in general. Never forget!
  • Very peaceful. Great place to reflect. There is a phone number you can call to get an audio tour with your cellphone 202-741-1004. There are water fountains and a bathroom trailer. Disabled bathroom available also. There is a lot of parking but pay attention to signs, since there are off limit area. You do not need reservations to see the memorial but you do need it to go on the Pentagon Tour.
