Milton Keynes Museum, Wolverton

4.7
The organ festival is a great weekend to experience the wonderful sounds of mechanical organs from large fairground organs to small hand organs and more.

From the magical chimes of music boxes to the evocative sounds of fairground organs, Milton Keynes Museum will be alive to the sound of music.

The festival offers a chance for older visitors to relive the soundtrack of their youth, and for youngsters to fall in love for the first time with mechanical music.

Exhibitors will be coming from far afield, bringing with them everything from small hand organs to spectacular fairground showpieces. All have been lovingly restored to perform as their creators intended. Some of the organs have been built and you can meet and talk to their creators.

Along with these special displays the Museum has many of its own musical exhibits which visitors will be invited to try out for themselves. Don’t miss the display of beautiful musical boxes inside the farmhouse. Or the miniature steam traction engines who will be adding their touch of magic to the the event.

All this at no extra cost on top of usual admission prices. The Museum is open both days from 11am-4.30pm.

  • Such a great place to spend a few hours. My 8 year old never tires of playing with all the phones and there is always something new to play with. The staff are all fantastic too and so happy to spend time explaining things. The cafe does great cakes too. There is a new bit opening soon. The only thing I would add is an outdoor play area for the kids.
  • Very good enjoyable experience. Lots to do intractable. Very cheap and a lot of fun. Have been many times. Lovely friendly people with a good cafes. A good learning experience but also very enjoyable for all ages
  • We took the grandchildren to MK Museum again and they loved it!!! The volunteers did a brilliant job of engaging their interest in the first two rooms, as ever and though quite busy we really enjoyed the visit. The section with the old shops is my favourite and some of the brands are vaguely familiar from when I was little. To be honest, you'd have a job not to find something interesting here, as there is plenty to see and look at. In the old kitchen a lady volunteer was getting families to toast bread on toasting forks, which was great fun!! All in all, a friendly and interesting museum which is always worth a visit.
  • This is a great find. Might seem a bit pricey at £9 a head (kids under five get in free as of this review (31/07/2018)) but the tickets last for 12 months, so great for locals, and there's tons of stuff for kids to do. It's the only museum I have visited where they actively encourage visitors to handle the exhibits!
  • Omg I love Milton Keynes museum. It's a great place to take the kids very hands on with lots of interesting things to see and do. My boys made toast in a Victorian kitchen and the telephone room is out outstanding.
