Tintagel Castle, Tintagel

4.3
The legendary birthplace of King Arthur, Tintagel Castle rests on a peninsula with a lookout over the Atlantic Ocean. Legend has it that Arthur was conceived here, after Merlin cast a spell to make King Uther look like Arthur's mother's husband Gorlois for one night. A stone with a Latin inscription thought to be Arthur's name found at the site is thought to give the legend some credence. All that is left of the castle are ruins of its walls, but these are enough to create a magical setting for sea views. Take the rugged coastal walk to see the castle and surrounding hills. Sample locally sourced crab-cake sandwiches and fresh fish and chips at the cafe. For Tintagel Castle and beyond, use our Tintagel online trip planner to get the most from your Tintagel vacation.

  • Could sit and relax whilst learning all day, worth a visit and will definitely go back. Get your walking shoes on but even the dogs enjoyed it.  more »

  • An enigmatic and delightful day out for the entire family. Be prepared for lots of walking and steps, but the experience is absolutely worth it. Allow at least 3 hours to fully enjoy the castle views and beach. Advanced online booking recommended as it will fast track your entry to the site. Plenty of reasonable priced car parking available in Tintagel town center. Cafe and toilet facilities located by shop above beach area. Highly recommended!
  • Absolutely wonderful castle ruins with beautiful views for miles all around. A real adventure getting from one side to the other, but there are great footpaths to help. It’s preserved really well. The bridge was built just a couple of months ago and is stunning. Spent about an hour and a half walking around but could’ve easily been more if had more time. Great value for money. Would definitely recommend!
