Transformative worship, challenging discipleship, generous hospitality and prayerful engagement. That is what we are all about at Portsmouth Cathedral. Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Portsmouth, a geographical area including south-east Hampshire, Portsea Island and the Isle of Wight.

For centuries this building, the Cathedral of the Sea, has watched, listened and helped the people of Portsmouth navigate the passage of time. It has witnessed war and peace, famous marriages, been bombed and rebuilt and remains a building of greatness and simple enduring beauty. More than this it is a vibrant and lively community set at the heart of the city and diocese of Portsmouth, responding to the call of God to meet people’s needs and equipping the whole diocese to share the love of God in Jesus Christ. ☩

  • Living locally, I am a member of this Cathedral church, which was only completed in recent years. Light, airy and welcoming. Has a very good shop for cards, books and gifts.  more »

  • Beautiful and serene church close to the royal garrison church. We found very friendly and helpful elderly volunteers here who were more than willing to take us through the church history explaining in detail about the phases of it's construction spread across time. The stained glass windows and music being played on the organ was good.
  • Friendly guides, lovely building with much to admire architecturely. An extremely nice ambiance in a building full of light. Very many memorial plaques to read. All in all a delightful cathedral. (pity no refractory otherwise would happily have given it 5 star.)
