The Manchester Museum, Manchester

4.5
With access to 4.5 million artifacts from every continent, The Manchester Museum is a vital research facility for the University of Manchester. The neo-Gothic building is centrally located on the university campus, so you can combine a museum visit with a tour of the university grounds. In 2011, the museum opened Living Worlds, an exhibit that encourages visitors to reflect on their own attitude toward nature. The Ancient Worlds exhibit involves a hands-on approach to explore the work of archaeologists. In 2013, Nature's Library opened to the public holding thousands of artifacts against the backdrop of Gothic Revival architecture. • My wife and I took our six year old grand daughter to visit the museum. The staff were very helpful and our grand daughter had a great time. Well worth a visit it’s both educational and fun.  more »
  • The museum is free and located close to the train station and the city centre so nice and easy to access. The exhibits are very traditional and don't really grab your attention. There is plenty to...  more »

  • The museum itself is great, lots to see and FREE. However, the exhibits are very informative my youngest children were slightly bored as the information given is in an adult format and there's not much interaction. The live exhibits of reptiles and amphibians are great, and my young children were excited. Also, cafe was a let down with not much of a selection for dinner with only 4 sandwich types and nothing else. So we had to find a cafe nearby for dinner. The coffee and cakes look great though.
  • AMAZING! We weren't expecting the Natural History Museum but we got it! Dinosaurs galore. the kids loved it too. Superbly curated. 3 floors and a cafe. recommended. free too!
