Malmesbury Market Cross, Malmesbury

A small piece of history, Malmesbury Market Cross makes a nice stop while shopping on the High Street. Siting in the hearth of the town, this 15th-century octagonal stone structure with intricate carvings remains one of the best preserved of its kind in England. Notice the sundial, the carving of the Crucifixion, and the southeast pinnacle that differs from the rest. Nicknamed "Birdcage," this historical structure still serves as shelter and meeting point. Cafes, pubs, and restaurants can be found within a stone's throw.
