The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is a registered charity that strives to promote and progress civil engineering. We believe that civil engineers are "at the heart of society, delivering sustainable development through knowledge, skills and professional expertise."Put The Institution of Civil Engineers Visitor Centre at the forefront of your travel plans using our London road trip site.
With this in mind, we are a qualifying body, a centre for the exchange of specialist knowledge, and a provider of resources to encourage innovation and excellence in the profession worldwide.
The ICE was founded in 1818 by a small group of idealistic young men. We were granted a royal charter in 1828 where we declared that our aim was to "foster and promote the art and science of civil engineering". That is still our aim today. Now the number of members has grown, and the ICE represents nearly 80,000 members worldwide.

I never knew this place existed until I went to a Sparkling wine tasting in the Great Hall. What a spectacular ceiling. There is also an exhibition on water open to the public as well as a cafe and bistro. Close to Westminster Abbey so worth a visit.

I'm a student member, and the member resources hub here is a wonderful place to study. Individual or pair booths with sound dampening features (and power) on the balcony, bigger tables (and some computers) on the main floor. Tea/coffee/biscuits. Lovely staff. Printing facilities. Everything I want in a study space. Also, unsurprisingly, many engineering books, so if I get stuck I can find another view of the topic!
