Jewel House, London

#153 of 264 in Historic Sites in London
Locked away in vaults in the Tower of London and protected by armed guards is Jewel House, which provides safe-keeping for the royal family's most precious jewels. A keeper of the Crown Jewels was first appointed in 1207, and the role evolved. From 1990 onward, a body of wardens dressed in royal livery were charged with protection of the royal jewels. The collection includes The Coronation Spoon, The Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross, St. Edward's Crown, and the Imperial State Crown, including numerous tiaras. Much of the collection is still in use for important national ceremonies. Put Jewel House on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our London sightseeing tool.

  • Well laid out access allowing good information & viewing of jewels and associated historical artifacts. The whole tower & environs are fascinating. Tower Beefeaters are approachable and only too happy share their invaluable knowledge. All the Tower staff are well mannered, helpful and cheerful. Well stocked souvenir shop/s, terrific cafe. Could spend all day at this wonderful London asset
  • Definitely worth to see, but make sure you have time to read the descriptions. It will help you understand what you see. Otherwise, these will be just beautiful regalia with beautiful jewels. But you can get more out of your visit here if you use your reading skills 😀 Expect some waiting time in the queue too. Anyway, very worth it.
