Hyde Park, London

4.7
#1 of 3,835 in Parks in England
Sitting on 142 hectares (350 acres) in central London, Hyde Park is one of the city's largest and most attraction-rich green spaces. You'll find plenty of ways to enjoy yourself here no matter the season. Navigate the Serpentine lake by rowboat or pedal boat, or take a swim if you visit between June and September. Stop by the Diana Memorial, a fountain made of Cornish granite with water flowing down an embankment in two directions to meet in a pool at the bottom. Walk around Speakers' Corner, where luminaries such as Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and George Orwell have given speeches, and many protests and demonstrations have taken place. Butterflies fly around in the summer and wildfowl visit in winter, and you can ride horses along two designated routes. If you plan to be in London during the first half of July, find out who's performing in the park's summer concert series. Tickets are usually in high demand, so you'll want to find out when they go on sale for any concerts you want to attend. • Walk along the Serpentine. Ducks, coots, Coot, swans and cormorants. Of beautiful green areas left fallow in front of the residence of Lady Di.

  • Certainly the most beautiful park in London, with many things to see: a classic Park, the Kensington Palace and its Gardens, then the fountain Memorial, without forgetting the squirrels... an incredible romance!

  • Love this park. Nice and big. Love the events that go there like the winter wonderland every year! The park is green all year round! Well maintained and loads of things to do in all of Hyde park!
  • Massive park in the very centre of London. Can have a little get together with friends, can walk the dog, can have a walk around on your own, can enjoy a beer in the sun, can swim in the Serpentine if you're insane, has gigs throughout the year and Christmas markets. It's the best park in the country, or of any in any major city I've been to.
  • Radiant and wonderful park! I went there to ride a santander bike but it is a lovely place to spend a day. With family or friends take out your backpacks, bring your thermos with tea or coffee and some snacks and have a lovely picnic and enjoy riding the bike! I love the nature! Very nice views! Lovely animals.
  • What should I write about Hyde Park...it is the mirror of London: green, cozy, open, teeming with people from all over the world, but holding its English personality. I particularly appreciate it during sunny days with the people I love. Extremely easy to reach, with two restaurants, a gallery, and many things to do and see, Hyde Park is the London Park for excellence.
  • Nice park with good sized paths and lake. Amenities could be better. The memorial playarea is very popular, meaning queues to get in. The fountain, which is really more of an artificial river, is good fun and unique but also busy on hot days. The signs say not to go in the water but clearly nobody is taking notice of those :)

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
