HMS Belfast, London

#9 of 262 in Historic Sites in London
Military Museum · Hidden Gem · Ship
Permanently moored on the River Thames, HMS Belfast is a museum ship open to the public. Access to the ship is via the footpath on the south bank of the river. A walkway connects the footpath to the ship's quarterdeck. Onboard, you'll visit nine decks all restored by the Imperial War Museum and thematically divided into three sections: a taste of seamen's daily lives; the boiler room, engine room, and communication and mechanical functions of the ship; and the admiral's bridge, operations room, and gun direction platform. In between these quartered-off sections, look for exhibits commemorating the ship's war service and personal stories of those who served aboard. • This is one fine looking Navy Ship, situated in such an ideal part of London. It is a complete experience and one not to be missed. A great way to learn what life was like on-board in the war years....  more »
  • It's made by the same company that built Titanic in Belfast shipyard but unlike poor unlucky Titanic, it has seen way more action and still standing. Now her sister the newer version HMS Belfast...  more »
  • What a great Ship to discover! I really loved it. You get offered a lot for the pretty cheap price. Everything is very well displayed, you can not only discover it by eyes and listening the stories of the audio guide but you can also touch almost everything and climb small ladders to discover also the last corner of the ship. Amazing! It also offered a great view over London.
  • Simply incredible. The level of engineering that went into building it, especially considering this was nearly 80 years ago, is stunning. We spent 3 hours exploring all the corners of the ship. To be honest,I was a bit skeptical when a member of staff told us they've got excellent toilets. He was right- they've got modern, clean and well maintained toilets on board.
