  • The tour of the historic West cemetery was one of the best guided tours I had in London -- so many interesting anecdotes, I literally took notes. Both sides of the cemetery are beautiful and serene, with plenty of interesting symbols and inscriptions to explore. I recommend visiting the guided-tour-only West side first, so that you have a bit more context when exploring the East side on your own.
  • If you're interested in learning more about the history and inhabitants of the cemetery, I recommend paying extra for the tour. We were shown round by Andrew, who was a highly knowledgeable guide. The West side of the cemetery (which the tour gives you access to) is much more overgrown (and as a result, beautiful and atmospheric) than the East side. Taking a wander around the East side is very interesting too.
