South Lakes Safari Zoo, Lindal-in-Furness

3.8
#1 of 6 in Zoos & Aquariums in Cumbria
Billed as one of the best conservation zoos in England, the wild inhabitants of South Lakes Safari Zoo reside on 6.9 hectares (17 acres) of land designed to help them feel right at home. The highlight is the African section, which is split into different enclosures. A pair of pygmy hippopotamuses and a slue of mandrills occupy one. In another, you'll see white rhinoceroses, baboons, and giraffes. Hundreds of other species populate other enclosures spread throughout the park. Pay a visit to Maki Restaurant for a bite to eat, and grab a seat on the restaurant's deck for a view of the rhinos, giraffes, and baboons. • Had a wonderful day doing a zookeeper experience. With my brother, did the African animals in the morning, met the red pandas and fed the tigers, lemurs and penguins. Gavin, Amy and Michael were super helpful and knowledgeable; the small team meant I kept bumping into them! The animals seemed well cared for and it was really obvious that the staff are making huge strides to keep improving the zoo. I liked the unusual safari set up and compact but varied size of the zoo. A fantastic day, both as a zookeeper experience and a trip to the zoo!
  • My wife and kids visited here. I drove them to the zoo. They had a great time! And for a small extra charges they fed the giraffes. And for £6 each you can feed the Tigers .. But the kids enjoyed the tour and feeding other animals. It is a great place for the family with lots of hands on for the kids and adults to.
