Fairy Glen, Isle of Skye

4.6
Take in the verdant scenery and enchanting mysticism of Fairy Glen. Climb up and down the slopes of the small hills and look out for any fairies. Legend has it that they have lived in the glen for centuries. Visit the Castle Ewen, a tower like feature, and discover stone designs made by visitors, or perhaps the fairies themselves. If you’re a confident hiker, head up the narrow path to the top of tower and be rewarded with views of the rolling countryside. Walking boots are recommended, as the glen can get muddy and slippery. Don’t forget to make a wish. Make Fairy Glen a part of your Isle of Skye vacation plans using our Isle of Skye sightseeing planner.

  • Definitely worth a visit but DO NOT take the car right through. Park in the nearby village and hike a kilometre. Totally chaotic to park (we were still there in October) because ' there is no organized parking space

  • Had just finished raining when we arrived...so very muddy walk back to the glen. Be sure to wear good shoes as some spots are very rocky, but this is a fairly easy walk for most. Magical green hills l...  more »

  • This is a strange and beautiful spot. The lumpy and bumpy area is well off-the-beaten-path. This area or glen, stands out as being very different to the surrounding farmland. The natural rock formations and the cone-shaped hills are dotted with ponds and pools. Here and there the streams can form scattered waterfalls. We visited one October week and at least a change of footwear is recommended. Especially for the younger members of the family who can run and tumble to explore. There are many little hillocks within quite a small area it is almost as though it is a mini version of a larger scale geological wonder sculpted by a passing glacier. Of course the name can give rise to a great many other tales if it’s origin. The area sits at the end of a narrow track, with minimal parking. Care is advised as you park or turn your car. Venturing off the tarmac road can lead to an off road experience in turn leading to repair bills.
  • Situated well out of the way, I'd recommend it for a visit and to go exploring. My only criticism would be the roads aren't big enough to handle the volume of visitors and some even park on the passing places, which makes it even harder for passing traffic to get through.
