Ness Islands, Inverness

#5 of 11 in Parks in Inverness
The Ness Islands (Scottish Gaelic: Na h-Eileanan Nis) are situated on the River Ness, opposite the Bught Park, in the city of Inverness, Scotland. The first bridges to the islands were built in 1828; prior to their construction the only access to the islands was by boat. The original bridges were washed away in the flood of 1849 and were replaced in 1853-1854 by two suspension bridges designed by William Dredge.

The islands are a walking spot for tourists and locals alike, and the islands are home to a number of imported species of trees and home to wildlife such as bats and otters and occasionally deer. The area includes play facilities for children, and the Ness Islands miniature railway.

  • A lovely riverside walk - an unexpected treat so close to the city centre. It was easy to find and there were lots of families, couples and older people all enjoying a nice day out,  more »
  • Walking along the river Ness and across the islands was beautiful and relaxing even on a winters day  more »

  • Gorgeous and peaceful walks by the river, not far from the centre. We'd love to see it at night because it looked well lit, I can imagine it wild be very pretty. The sound of the river nearby is very relaxing.
  • Fantastic walk in between the trees including some really tall redwoods with small connected islands network as the River Ness divurges. Beautiful natural wooden landscape sculptures too. Lots of wildlife & fly fishing.
