  • Nicely laid out museum that shows not only the industrial history of the area but also its social history. The cottages at the back of the main museum are really well laid out and contain many things that were common place in my house and the houses of my family. The outside exhibits are interesting but need some more information boards. The main building is full of interesting displays and exhibits which do make you think. The cafe is clean and has a range of well priced snacks, drinks ANF more substantial fare. The museum is free, tickets for the tram ride are available at the gift shop. All in all an interesting place to spend time.
  • Great place with lots of fascinating industrial history, good for kids too. Easy disabled and pushchair access to the entire site with a fantastic little adventure playground. Free entry except for a short tram ride and the trip down the mine to see what the conditions were like for the original miners.
