Blickling Estate, Blickling

4.5
Discover Blickling Estate, once the home of the Boleyn family and voted the most haunted house in Britain in a National Trust survey in 2007. Explore the house, inspect the book collection, and hear the real voices of the servants who once worked there. Take in the moat, ancient yew hedges, garden ornaments, topiary, and kitchen garden. Walk, rent a bike, or ride a Segway around the parkland. Watch croquet, admire the shell fountain, find the secret garden, and relax with a picnic. Stop for a pint at the Buckinghamshire Arms and browse the largest collection of secondhand books in the National Trust before departing. • One of my favourite National Trust properties in the country. The new accessible path around the estate opened up a whole new way to experience the property. The tearoom is always stocked with a plethora of savoury and sweet options, many freshly baked on site. The shop is a bit of a tight squeeze in a wheelchair, but stocked well. This also goes for the second hand bookshop. The house itself is beautiful and has fascinating and beautiful exhibitions on occasion.
  • Blickling Hall and the estate is in many respects, the quintessential British setting. It has history and parkland that demonstrate the wealth that the land generated. The Hall is well worth a visit, as is the walk around the parkland. The mausoleum is plan but very symbolic of the idea of a monument. The secondhand book store is worth a visit on it's own.
