The Conwy Valley Railway Museum is located at Betws-y-Coed railway station, Betws-y-Coed, North Wales, on the site of the old railway goods yard.
The museum was founded in the early 1970s by Alan Pratt, starting with a former standard gauge railway carriage which today acts as a licensed Buffet & Restaurant car. The current museum was built later, and contains various railway artefacts, including a gauge quarter scale (1:4) replica of a Britannia class locomotive.
Other attractions include a gauge miniature steam railway which runs for 1mi on the site.
There is also a one-third full-size electric tramcar which runs for a 0.5mi on the site, on track of gauge. This is the only electric railway of any gauge in Wales.

  • We’re local and come here often but always avoid this shop at all costs, it’s dirty, overpriced, not been updated for 30 years and the owners are rude and just dislike children, as they always have...  more »
  • Last train from Conwy Valley? I had the misfortune to try and take a ride on the miniature railway situated next to the main line station at Betws-Y-Coed on Monday afternoon 1st November. I stood...  more »
  • After visiting the zip world attraction we stopped in the town to have a little look and I spotted the railway museum. I'm so glad that we did, as it was a fantastic little adventure for the boys who went on the miniature railway. It was a small steam engine which looked and sounded great, and took the passengers around a large area, for £2.50 each it was great value. I had a quick look around the shop and there were some interesting models for sale. The staff were friendly and facilities were clean. We'll worth a visit. 😁
  • Takes me back in time, to when I was a young lad growing up! I had my own train set at home, and it felt like being in a different world! The excitement and thrill of setting up these train sets, can be enjoyed at this destination in Betws-y-Coed, and the displays already set inside take men and boys back to the time of steam trains. A great meal can be obtained in the static carriages close by, and prices and menu are extremely reasonable for an assortment of main and side dishes (including desserts)! There are displays of railway paraphernalia also in some of the static carriages well worth perusing as well.
