The Roman Baths, Bath

#1 of 243 in Things to do in Bath
See how ancient Romans bathed at The Roman Baths. Hot springs have bubbled up in Bath since time immemorial, and the Romans began developing a temple and public bathhouse here around 60 CE. Today, you can tour the various sections of the incredibly well-preserved complex, including the Sacred Spring, the Roman Temple, and the Roman Bath House. The main area of interest is the open-air, column-lined Great Bath. When you enter the site, make sure to take the audio guide that's included in the ticket price. After touring the different areas, enter the museum to see artifacts collected from the original bath. As tempting as it might be to bathe yourself where ancient Romans once did, the site does not permit you to enter the water. Before you head to Bath, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Bath online road trip planner , to make sure you see all that Bath has to offer, including The Roman Baths.

  • If you think it's not your thing then go anyway! It's awesome for adults and kids. Very interesting place and incredibly beautiful. Even when busy it's a relaxing and peaceful place. I was very pleased I went. Will definitely go next time I'm in Bath.
  • A must visit place if you are around. A UNESCO world heritage city and its gorgeous in architecture. Take at least a minimum of two hours to see the place. The audio guides are well designed with the story of the Roman baths narrated very well explaining the story. You have the chance to go through all the remnants of the place and learn how the hot water fountains were made and preserved. There is a lot to see than just the baths. Took us three hours plus leave some time to enjoy the magnificent city of Bath
