Must see · Castle · Garden
Green and boasting the luxury of a typical British estate garden, The Alnwick Garden sits on a lush expanse of land in the heart of the Northumberland countryside. First established in 1750, the garden is blessed with tasteful landscaping, ornate stone works, and picturesque pathways. It now covers 17 hectares (42 acres) of land and endures as a reminder of a golden age of British architecture and design. Enter the Venetian gates of the ornamental garden and wander along pathways lined by fruit trees and lavender. Sit by the bubbling pool in the center and admire the colorful varieties of flowers surrounding you. Wrap up your visit with refreshments in the cafe, a 560 sq m (6,000 sq ft) treehouse, which is one of the largest of its kind in the world. • Fabulous gardens and a brilliant day out! Loved the poison garden. COVID secure and a real treat! Cafes were serving some food and good systems were in place.  more »

  • Fantastic place! Loved The Poison Garden tour. The gardens are beautiful and so relaxing. Praise for Sandy who met us at the entrance. A lovely man who is very informative and friendly. He's a real asset to your team!
  • Lots to see and do. The free 20 minute poison garden tour is worth doing. You'll never be without your gardening gloves again. But they only take 20 people at a time so investigate that first. The water features are all magnificent and kids love getting wet in any of the fountains. Maybe take a towel on a hot day. It's getting to the end of the flowers now but I'm sure there's more highlights. Parking is £3 all day and is only 10 mins stroll from the market square so it's worth it. Good cafe too with ample seating inside and out and nice meals and snacks. Also there is the tree house restaurant which is well worth a peek even if you don't go in for lunch. Very unusual labyrinths and plenty for all the family at the gardens including a fantastic fantasy mini golf course outside. Plant sales too.
