Thuburbo Majus (or Thuburbo Maius) is a large Roman site in northern Tunisia. It is located roughly 60 km southwest of Carthage on a major African thoroughfare. This thoroughfare connects Carthage to the Sahara. Other towns along the way included Sbiba, Sufes, Sbeitla, and Sufetula. Parts of the old Roman road are in ruins, but others do remain.

  • This is one a several absolutely wonderful Roman sites in Tunisia. When we visited in October, as with all the other places we visited, we practically had the place to ourselves! It was a great place....  more »
  • This is an important Roman site that is not in the top 10. Worth a visit because it has lots of ruins over a large area and you may have the site all to yourself for taking photos. You do not need.....  more »
  • Very interesting place to visit in order to discover no less than three different civilizations at the same place which is something extremely rare.
