Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Tokyo Disneyland in Maihama, about 38 minutes away. The adventure continues: admire the landmark architecture of Tokyo Tower, make a trip to Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, ponder the world of politics at Imperial Palace, and visit Odaiba District.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Wed): take in the spiritual surroundings of Eikando Zenrinji Temple, then steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

Take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In December, plan for daily highs up to 13°C, and evening lows to 4°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Thu) so you can go by car to Osaka.

On the 5th (Thu), take a stroll through Dotombori District. Keep things going the next day: steep yourself in history at Osaka Castle, then admire the striking features of Kuchu Teien Observatory, and then walk around Nara Park.

Getting from Kyoto to Osaka by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a train; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 13°C in December, and nighttime lows around 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel to Tokyo.
